Ethena will collaborate with Securitize and BlackRock to launch a new stablecoin UStb
Ethena Labs, the company issuing decentralized stable currency USDe, announced on Thursday that it will cooperate with Blackrock, the asset management company, and Securitize, the real world asset token company, to launch a new stable currency, called UStb, supported by BUIDL, the token based treasury bond fund issued by Blackrock.
According to the announcement, the functionality of UStb will be the same as traditional stablecoins, and Ethena Labs intends to invest its reserves in BUIDL issued by BlackRock on Ethereum. BUIDL Fund invests 100% of its total assets in cash, US treasury bond bonds and repurchase agreements. Since its launch in March this year, BUIDL has rapidly developed into the largest token US treasury bond fund, with an asset management scale of more than 522 million US dollars.
Ethena Labs wrote in the announcement, "UStb will exist as a completely independent product, providing users and exchange partners with new options to meet their needs for stablecoins. Compared to USDe, UStb has a completely different risk profile
Ethena Labs also pointed out that UStb can help USDe better cope with difficult market conditions. If Ethena's governance deems it necessary and appropriate, Ethena will be able to liquidate USDe related hedging positions during periods of negative funding rates and reallocate its supporting assets to UStb to further reduce related risks.
Ethena Labs plans to enable UStb to serve as an alternative to USDe, as collateral for margin on cooperating centralized exchanges (currently including Bybit and Bitget). Information regarding the launch date of UStb and its integration with exchanges will be released in the coming weeks.
Affected by the above news, Ethena's governance token ENA has risen by about 11% in a short period of time, with a trading price of $0.356 before the deadline.
The collaboration with Ethena to issue UStb Securitize has led to over $950 million in tokenization investments. The company announced in May this year that it had completed a $47 million strategic funding round led by BlackRock, with alternative investment management firms Hamilton Lane, ParaFi Capital, Tradeweb Markets, Aptos Labs, Circle, and Paxos also participating in this round of funding.
